James (Jim) Kocak

Jackson, MN

            James (Jim) Kocak, 70, passed away on Thursday, December 7th 2023 at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn, MN. An open house Celebration of Life will be held at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center (Jackson) on Sunday, December 10th 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A private family service and burial will take place at a later date.

James Bernard Kocak was born on June 2, 1953 to John and Betty (Janssen) Kocak in Fairmont, MN. He was the fourth of nine children to John and Betty. James (Jim) attended Good Shepherd Catholic Grade School and graduated from Jackson High School in 1972. He was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Parish. Jim was married to Jan (Werner) in 1974 and they were blessed with three children and four grandchildren. Jim taught middle and high school social studies in Jackson and at JCC for 10 years. He also coached boys’ basketball. Jim enjoyed running, biking, and golfing. He was a very active and social person, often seen throughout his hometown of Jackson. Jim worked road construction as a blade operator, a trade he learned early in life working with his dad and brothers throughout the country. His favorite construction stints were Hawaii and Texas. In Texas, he had the pleasure of working and living with his nephew Jordan. Most of all Jim enjoyed spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his three children: Ashley (Clint); Jacob (Allison); and Kyle (Rachel). Four grandchildren: Eloise, Kennedy, Porter, and Hudson. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Dan Kocak, Linda Kocak, Catherine Shell (Bob Wallace); Jack (Rebecca Driscoll) Kocak; Mary (Bill) Nielson; Patty (Rob) Scroggs; Mark (Kerri) Kocak; and Marcia Kocak. He was a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents John and Betty Kocak and brother Tom.

The family especially thanks Temperance Lake Ridge staff, United Hospital District hospice staff and Dr. Timothy Sheneman for their superior care. Family requests no flowers; memorials will be donated to Temperance Lake Ridge and United Hospital District Hospice in memory of Jim.
