Eugene L. Swanson
ALPHA: A Service Of Remembrance for Eugene L. Swanson, 84, of Alpha, Minnesota will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha, Minnesota. There will be military honors outside the church right after the service.
Gene was called to his eternal rest on Friday evening, April 28, 2023 at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont, Minnesota.

Eugene Lowell Swanson was born Nov. 15, 1938 to Emil and Frances Swanson in Fairmont MN, He received his education in Sherburn Mn graduating with the class of 1956. Gene grew up on a farm south of Alpha helping his dad until he was drafted in 1961. While serving his country he obtained the rank of Specialist E4 in heavy equipment. In 1963 he was honorably discharged. Upon discharge he returned to Alpha Mn where he met his future wife, Theresa “Bonnie” LaVonne Ambrose. Together they made Alpha, MN their home where they raised their son Michael. Gene and Bonnie lived in the home they purchased in 1965 until their move to Gold Finch Estates in May 2022.
Gene worked a variety of different jobs around Alpha Until settled with Cargill where he worked for 25 years. Gene retired from Cargill in 2001. After retirement he worked part time at Farmers CO-OP in Jackson,MN and also worked for Danbred.
Gene was an avid fisherman and was very proud of his boat. In his younger years he went on an annual trip to South Dakota to hunt Prairie dogs. He also enjoyed model airplanes and wood working. Gene loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren Tyler and Jacob. Gene was excited when he found out he was going to be a great grandfather in Nov. 2023. Gene spent a lot of time helping his mother in-law, Anna Ambrose, in her later years, you would see them many Sundays driving in his blue Chevy Truck on their way to Jackson so she could attend church. After he lost Bonnie he enjoyed spending a lot of time with his niece Tammy, who helped him with many things including Googling things about his favorite shows especially GunSmoke.
Gene was a man of few words but he was a humble man that looked out for and cared deeply for his family.
He will be missed by his son, Michael and his wife Becky; grandsons, Tyler and Jacob(Bailey) Swanson all of Mankato, MN: brother Bill (Dianne) Swanson of rural Alpha, MN ; brother in-law Tom(Mary) Ambrose McKinney, TX , sister in-law Mary Ambrose, Windom, and several nieces and nephew.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, his parents: his brother and sister in-law, Jim and Harriet Clark; brother in-law Frank Ambrose, and other relatives.
