JACKSON: A Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene A. “Gene” Resch, 95, of rural Jackson, Minnesota, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 311 N. Sverdrup Avenue, Jackson, Minnesota. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson, Minnesota.

Gene was called to his eternal rest on Friday Evening, May 30, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson and one hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. There will be Holy Rosary at 4:30 p.m. at the Church on Friday.

Eugene Anthony Resch was born on November 5, 1929 to Anna Elizabeth (Dullea) and Jacob George Resch. He was born at Halloran Hospital in Jackson, Mn. He was welcomed home by brothers Leo and John.

Gene attended country school grade 1 through 6 and getting there by riding his pony, Flash. Grade 7 and 8 attended Peace Memorial Catholic school and then to Jackson high school, graduating in 1947. He got to high school in a 1935 two door Ford with his brothers and a car load of neighbor kids.

Gene grew up on a family farm where you were expected to help with daily chores. His strong work ethic began at an early age. One duty was to cut corn into three pieces using a board and corn knife. Did not really consider it a job as it was an enjoyable task. After school, go out to pig pen and pick up corn cobs to be used in the house for stove to cook. (his mother’s potato soup was a favorite). Saturday afternoon was to clean chicken house, which he did not care to do. The family farm is where he drove his first tractor all by himself, a 1937 Model B John Deere. Gene lived on the family farm for 20 years until he moved to Des Moines township.

Gene met the new elementary school teacher in Jackson on a blind date at the Mayflower café in Jackson. A beautiful girl with red hair that caught his eye. He later married Ruth Irene Burdick on December 28, 1954 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in Jackson. Together they had a family of six children which they instilled faith and family.

Gene and Ruth enjoyed the outdoors and farm life. Gene had dairy cows until the age of 50 and continued for many years farming. He had a great collection of John Deere tractors. Gene and Ruth had a very large vegetable garden and loved to grow flowers. Gladiolus flowers and roses where the favorites. They enjoyed sharing their harvest with friends and family. Gene enjoyed watching the Ed Sullivan show, Gunsmoke and John Deere bandwagon. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay packers and state high school basketball tournaments. Together Ruth and Gene enjoyed a Sunday afternoon drive to the lakes and an ice cream cone. They made several trips to the Duluth area, especially in the fall and see the trees changing colors from green to gold and orange while listening to polka music along the way. They enjoyed checking out the state parks throughout Minnesota.

Celebrating the simple things in life was also included. Roasting marshmallows and hot dogs on a bon fire, Dilly bars from Dairy Queen, root beer floats from A&W, and going to Kilen Woods state park among many other things.

Gene is survived by his six children Kathleen Pedersen of Pierce, NE, twin boys, Mike (Joyce) Resch of Mankato, Mark (Laura) Resch of Eagle Lake, Mn, Stephen Resch of Jackson, Mn, Sharon (Larry) Wilson of Sioux Falls, Sd, and Brian (Joy) Resch of Minneapolis, Mn. Fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was proceeded in death by his parent Anna and Jacob; wife Ruth; granddaughter Renee; great grandson Logan; brothers Leo and John and sister-in-law Alyce.
