Sanford Jackson To Host Blood Drive Tomorrow 8-11 Am
(Jackson)- In response to the still ongoing blood shortage throughout the country, there will be a blood drive at Sanford Jackson tomorrow between 8 am and 11 am. The demand for blood is seeing a decline in donors, as life continues to return to pre-pandemic levels, the need for blood does not. Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of the Community Blood Bank, says that this is one regular way you can really help people...
“I mean, it's life giving donating organs, but not... because a person donates blood and then in 56 days you can donate blood again, it's a regenerative thing. Once you've donated, we separate the blood into components of platelets, plasma, and red blood cells, so you can in fact save up to three patient's lives.”
Not only can you save lives, but the blood bank is also offering some incentives to those willing to give this blood. If you attend the blood drive you can receive a Subway gift card to help get your energy back, and an All American blood donor t-shirt. They will also have juice and cookies on hand at Sanford Jackson Medical Center.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with signed parent consent, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health to donate.
