UPDATE: Tree removal in preparation for the Highway 60 Lake Crystal construction project will continue through next week. Shoulder closures are expected to begin next week. Motorists should watch for workers and drive with caution through the Lake Crystal area.
For those of you who travel on Highway 60 near Lake Crystal the MN DOT is saying motorists should exercise caution starting March 12 as crews begin tree removal in preparation for spring construction. The work, expected to be completed within the week, aims to prevent protected bats from nesting.
This is part of a larger Highway 60 reconstruction project, which includes road reconstruction, utility replacement, a westbound median acceleration lane, a pedestrian trail, bridge repairs, and updated lighting. Construction is set to begin in mid to late April and last until fall 2025, with traffic detours expected. The project, awarded to Mathiowetz Construction for $18.37 million, aims to improve safety, traffic flow, and accessibility.
