Police Chase Saturday Night Leads To Arrest Of Lakefield Man

(Jackson)- The weekend saw the Jackson County Sheriff's Department busy at work. Saturday at 8:18 pm saw a deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Mill Road and 510th Ave. in Belmont Twns.  As the deputy exited the squad car and began to approach the driver, the fled.  A pursuit ensued ending about 1/2 mile south of Kilen Woods on 510th St. when the vehicle entered the ditch and briefly caught fire.  The driver fled on foot into a wooded area.  Deputies quickly extinguished the fire and then set up a perimeter.  Deputies alerted several residences in the immediate area of what had transpired and to lock their vehicle and house doors and to report anything suspicious that they might see.  A person was later observed fleeing on foot in a bean field near the woodlot.  The male, age 46 from Lakefield, was then apprehended and is being held on Felony Fleeing A Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, 5th Degree Controlled Substance Possession, 2nd Degree DUI Test Refusal, and Driving After Revocation.  The Windom PD K-9 Unit, MN State Patrol, and Lakefield PD all assisted at the scene.
