One person killed in three vehicle accident Thursday

One person was killed in a three vehicle accident Thursday morning on Highway 71, north of Windom.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that around 11:50am, a 2008 Chevy Silverado, driven by 64 year-old Jeffery Shaner of Sanborn, and a 2015 International Dump Truck, driven by 56 year-old Greg Boettger of Springfield, were both stopped on Highway 71, near County Road 41.  A 2005 Chevy Silverado, driven by 37 year-old Ryan Klenken of Reading, MN, was also northbound on Highway 71 and rear-ended the dump truck, which in turn rear-ended the 2008 Silverado.

Klenken was killed in the accident.  The other two drivers, Jeffrey Shaner and Greg Boettger, were both taken to the Windom Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A portion of Highway 71 was closed due to the accident.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s office, Sanborn Fire/EMS, Jeffers Fire/EMS, Westbrook Police and Windom Police all assisted at the scene.
