Milford man to remain in custody on federal charges
(Sioux City)-- A Milford man will remain held on federal explosives and firearms charges until his trial is held in October. A federal judge has ruled Darrell Sorey will remain held, saying the charges are serious enough to warrant the action.
Sorey was charged with possession of a firearm by a drug user, receipt and possession of a destructive device and making a destructive device.
Sorey is accused of possessing a pipe bomb and so-called CO2 bombs, including one that was attached to an arrow, along with several long guns, and two high capacity magazines. Some of the firearms and explosives were found at the scene of a fatal truck crash that claimed the life of Sorey's father. Others were discovered when authorities executed a search warrant on Sorey's residence in Arnolds Park.
In denying Sorey's request for release pending trial, Judge Leonard Strand cited the serious nature of the charges. He also expressed concern over a potential danger to the community should he be released citing Sorey's criminal history.
