Lakefield Golf Course has New Owner
Fri 3-7-2025

(Lakefield, Mn.)– The golf course in Lakefield, Minnesota is under new ownership. Businessman Jim Hussong and his wife Tresa are the new owners of the nine hole course to be named Valley Brook…
“The city has owned it, bought it a couple of years ago, it was kind of going into disrepair and they bought it to kind of save it but they didn’t want to continue to run it so they were looking for a buyer and we thought the one thing that was left in Lakefield that really needs to be taken care of is the golf course. It’s a beautiful amenity. It’s a nine hole course. Beautiful. It goes over a creek back and forth throughout the whole place.”
Hussong says while the course itself is in great condition, that isn’t the case with the clubhouse, which he says they plan to demolish…
“We’re going to tear that all down and kind of make it into a barndominium and we’re going to have an event center there that can seat about 300 people and we’re going to have golf simulators in there for the wintertimes and the kind of simulators that can do other things, other games, like basketball and doing baseball, and soccer so that the kids can have birthday parties and stuff out there. Yeah, it’s going to be a great place, venue for weddings and having events for that.”
Hussong says they plan to start the work as soon as the weather allows this spring…
“We’ll probably have a big bonfire, we’re hoping here, with the Lakefield Fire Department and we’ll start that first thing this spring and then do construction all summer long. We’ll have a temporary clubhouse here so that the golf course will be open all summer long. We’re planning on having a grand opening in the spring of 2026.”
Hussong also owns Kozy Heat, Duddley’s Bowling and the Hi-Lo Club in Lakefield, says he and his wife, who live in Arnolds Park where he also serves as Mayor, have strong ties to Lakefield…
“We live in beautiful Arnolds Park, Iowa which is phenomenal, and then we get to kind of come up and play where Tresa and I were high school sweethearts and went to school and it was our hometown. We have ties between both Iowa and Minnesota and we love every second of it.”
Hussong says he’s grateful to the residents and visitors of the Iowa Great Lakes who travel the short distance to Lakefield to patronize the businesses in that community as well.
