Judge Finds Allison Decker Guilty On All Three Counts Against Her In Death Of Angel Bastman
Wed 6-22-2022
(Spirit Lake)– A judge has found Allison Decker guilty on all three counts against her in the December 2020 death of Angel Bastman of Lake Park. Those include murder in the 1st degree, theft in the 2nd degree and conspiracy to commit theft. A sentencing date will be set pending completion of a pre-sentence report.
Judge Shayne Mayer announced her verdict Tuesday afternoon. It followed a bench trial in May that lasted a little more than a week. The judge did not read her finding of fact in open court, saying it would be placed on file.
Earlier today (Tuesday), another person charged in the case, Justice Berntson, was sentenced to a term in prison not to exceed 25 years. He had also been originally charged with 1st degree murder in the case, but pled guilty to a reduced charge of attempted murder as part of a plea deal. Berntson will be eligible for parole and work release after serving at least 70 percent of the sentence. He was also ordered to pay restitution.
