Jackson County New Local Sales and Use Tax to Start April 1st
Thu 1-2-2025
The mild weather has been positive for construction in the area as you can still see work being done on the new Jackson County law enforcement center and government services building. Jackson County Administrator Ryan Kroesch gives an update.
Not only is the construction on schedule Kroesch says the project is on budget.
The 41.2 million dollar price tag is being financed from a few different sources which include cash reserves, existing revenue from wind production and current property taxes. It is also being funded by an approved countywide 1 percent sales and use tax. This tax will start on April 1st and Krosch says businesses that collect sales tax will receive a notice from the MN Department of Revenue 60 days prior to the new tax starting. Jackson County's 1% sales and use tax was approved by the voters at the November 5th, 2024 election. It is estimated that the tax will generate 17.5 million dollars over the next 25 years to help pay for the project.
