Fairmont Graduate Michael Izen Named Auxiliary Bishop-Elect Of Saint Paul And Minneapolis
(Fairmont)- A Fairmont man has been named by Pope Francis as the Auxiliary Bishop-Elect of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, with the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.
Ordinated in 2005, Michael John Izen is currently the pastor of the Churches of Saint Michael and Saint Mary in Stillwater, as well as the administrator of the Saint Croix Catholic School. As an auxiliary bishop, Izen will work alongside Archbishop Bernard Hebda, as well as Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Williams, to lead the church in the 12-county metro area. Archbishop Hebda said of the appointment, “I have come to know Bishop-elect Izen as a generous and capable pastor with a great love for Christ and for his sheep. I have particularly admired his ability to collaborate effectively with brother priests, Religious Sisters, and lay leadership in advancing the work of the Church. His impressive natural gifts all suggest that the Lord has long been preparing him to serve as a bishop.”
Izen attended St. John Vianney Catholic School as well as Fairmont High School, and says that while the call was a surprise and a little humbling, he is ready to get to work. His official ordination will be on April 11th at the Cathedral of St. Paul.
