(Jackson)- The race for recently deceased Jim Hagedorn's 1st Congressional District seat in southern Minnesota is heating up as more candidates plan events for their run. “We grew up on a farm just outside of town, my mother actually still lives on the family farm, and so he's been very active in the farming community all his life. He's a lawyer now in Albert Lea for the last 25 years. He is very active in agricultural law, he is very active in helping the small businesses, he wants to be there for the community and help.”

Vanohlen says that what draw people to him is his passion for the people of the region, and that in Washington he would certainly be pulling for his constituents. Benda will be having some local Meet and Greet events coming up this Wednesday, May 11th, including one at the Red Carpet in Sherburn from 10:30-11:30 am, one at Kat's Hog Heaven here in Jackson from 12:30-1:30 pm and a last one at Bridget's Bucksnorts from 4:30-5:30 pm again here in Jackson.

The special election to fill the 1st Congressional District seat is on May 24th.
