City of Jackson Raises Electric Rates

Thu 1-9-2025

The city of Jackson voted to increase the electric rates by 5% for 2025. Evan Leebens, a senior rate analyst for Missouri River Energy Services, said that Jackson has not had a rate increase since 2017. The proposed increase was 5% in 2025, 2026 and 2027. The board voted for the increase for 2025 only so they can re-visit it again in 2026. Leebens said the reason for the increase can stem from rising purchased power and local operating costs, capital expenditures and to maintain the cash reserve balance. The measure passed 5 to 1 with councilman Nathan Peterson voting no saying it isn’t the right time to raise prices.
