Busy Thanksgiving Weekend For Jackson County Sheriff's Office
(Jackson)- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office had something of a busy Thanksgiving day weekend, with a few crashes and other occurrences. Of note, last Friday at 4:07 pm saw a deputy traveling northbound on Hwy 86 near CR 24, which met a vehicle going 84 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone. When the deputy attempted to catch up, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, then turned onto 5th avenue and struck a parked vehicle. A juvenile driver was arrested and charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
Also on Saturday at 1:53 pm, a deputy responded to a two vehicle crash on the Ashley Street bridge in Jackson. A 2005 GMC Sierra was eastbound on the bridge, with a 2008 F350 having turned west on the bridge, the vehicle lost control due to slippery conditions and struck the GMC. The GMC then lost control and struck the side of the bridge.
Conditions will continue to worsen as we get further into the cold season, make sure you are slowing down and keeping control of your vehicle.
