(St. Paul, MN)- Governor Walz has signed into law a ban on the collection of wild turtles in the state. Nonprofit researchers say each year, for-profit trappers collect thousands of turtles from Minnesota's waterways. A study has shown that turtle populations are lower in lakes where commercial trapping had occurred. Researchers say unlike wild game such as deer, wild turtles take many years to mature and reproduce.
