Smith receives ICCAC honor
AMES - Shareece Smith of Iowa Lakes Community College, has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week.
She's a 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Fort Dodge.
Smith scored 17 points against the Gustavus JV, hitting both of her three-point attempts and helping the Lakers win 63-58. She followed that up with a her first double-double of the season as she had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 95-65 win over Minnesota West.
"Shareece makes everyone around her better," said Iowa Lakes coach Ashley Martin. "She pushes the tempo and allows our team to play quick. She is a tenacious defender and has really sparked our defense. I’m excited to see her continue to improve."
The Lakers are 7-2 to start the season. They travel to Mason City to play in the NIACC Thanksgiving Basketball Classic this weekend, playing Central CC Saturday and the Grand View JV Sunday. ILCC opens its conference schedule next Wednesday vs. Iowa Central.
