St James Area pulled the upset of the ninth-ranked Jackson County Central softball team on Tuesday. 

The Saints beat the Huskies 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel. 

Hadley Wachal went the distance and allowed hits with one earned on just one hit. She also tossed nine strikeouts and gave up three walks. 

Clara Brinks scored on an error as a courtesy runner to give JCC the 1-0 lead. 

The Saints scored twice in the fifth inning. Bailey Finck reached second base on an outfield error and stole her way over to third base in the seventh but no further. Brinks stole a pair of bases on the day. Kinley VanDeVere registered the only JCC hit and stole a base. The Huskies committed four errors compared to the Saints with three. 

The Huskies get an immediate shot at some redemption when they host the Saints on Tuesday. It is Senior Day for the Class of 2025 featuring Lauren Johnson and Kayleigh Nosbusch. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
