Moonen Makes JCC History at Pizza Ranch Invite

Izzy Moonen became the first girl from Jackson County Central ever to win a tournament championship on Saturday at the Pizza Ranch Invitational. 

Moonen went 4-0 with all of her wins by pin at 124 pounds in her home gym to make history. She also earned the Most Falls in Least Amount of Time award. Mckenna Tweedt finished second with Aubrey Carnesi and Makayla Sosa getting fourth place. 

Kayden Eller was the lone JCC boy champion at 121 pounds with a win by major decision and a pair of pins. Kyler Thier finished second place at 127 pounds after wrestling for the title. 

Dallas Gossen won third place at 139 pounds with fourth-place finishes going to Mathias Liepold at 107 pounds, Isaac Rodriguez at 133 pounds, and Jack Mix at 215 pounds. Carson Kolander at 172 pounds and Ryan Haley at 189 pounds won fifth place. Braeden Tufvesson took home sixth place at 145 pounds. 

JCC finished third in the team standings behind Hutchinson and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial and in front of Paynesville and Albert Lea.

The girls return to the mat at the Luverne Girls Invite on Friday. 

The boys are back in action at the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament in Spencer on Saturday.
