MCW Volleyball and Football Practice is Underway and we Caught Up with Coach Zehms and Coach Elliot
Wed 8-24-2022
High school practices have started all over the state of MN and we caught up with Martin County West head volleyball coach Kayla Zehms yesterday (Tuesday). The Mavericks finished last season with a 5-17 overall record and were 3-5 in the valley conference. Zehms says she is happy with what she has seen so far.
It's always hard to lose the seniors from the previous year but coach Zehms believes she has the players to fill the void left from graduation.
The Mavericks will start their season on Sept. 1st with a home match against Fairmont. The Mavericks play their home matches at MCW Elementary school in Trimont. Tune in to Xtreme Country 105.7 around 6:45 for the pre-game show and 7:00 for the first serve.
After visiting with the volleyball coach, I then made my way to football practice at MCW and caught up with head coach Tom Elliot, who has taken on a new roll at MCW this year.
Elliot says there has definitely been a learning curve to the AD position.
Then we talked about football and so far, coach Elliot likes what he sees.
We will cover every Mavericks football game this season starting with their first game on Friday Sept 2nd. The Mavericks take on St. James at home and you can tune in to Xtreme Country 105.7 at 6:45 for the pre-game and 7pm for the kickoff.
