MCW Boys Basketball Team Upsets #1 Ranked Team in Section 2A Playoffs
Wyatt Williamson traded the wrestling mat for the hardwood earlier this winter and head coach Cliff Anderson said that Williamson was the difference in last night's victory over #1 ranked USC in south sub section, section 2A basketball action. The Mavericks knocked off the Rebels by a score of 56 to 50. Williamson had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Zach Anderson led the Mavericks with 22 points after being double and triple teamed most of the night. He also had 11 rebounds, seven assists and 5 blocked shots. He was 16 for 18 from the free throw line. Mitch Weber and Hunter Schmidt tossed in 8 points and Jamesson Forsberg had 7.
The Mavericks are now 17-11 overall and will play Mankato Loyola who is the #2 seed. The game will be on Monday night at Gustavus Adolphus at 6pm. The Crusaders edged No. 3-seeded Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey (18-9), 49-45 to get into the Championship. USC ended its season with a 20-8 overall record.
In the north sub section of section 2A Cedar Mountain defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 62 to 60 and Lester Prairie defeated BOLD 66 to 55. Cedar Mountain and Lester Prairie will play the second game of the night on Monday.
