Wed 6-8-2022

The Martin County West Mavericks baseball season came to an end last night at ISG field in Mankato. They played Sleepy Eye St. Mary's in the Section 2A playoff game and if they had won would have moved on to the Section Championship vs New Ulm Cathedral. The score was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 6th inning when the Knights scored two runs. The Mavericks couldn’t come up with an answer in the top of the 7th. The Mavericks only had two hits on the day. Knights’ Talan Helget was the winning pitcher, throwing the first six innings, giving up two runs, two hits, three walks and striking out four. Brandon Schmitz tossed the seventh inning to pick up the save. Zach Anderson went seven innings for the Mavericks, giving up four runs, 10 hits, no walks and striking out two. Jacob Fiala and Jesse Potts generated MCW’s two hits, while Owen Weiss, Kaleb Wait, Schmitz and Kameron Kosak each had two hits to power St. Mary’s. Carson Domeier and Mark Anderson also had hits for St. Mary’s. MCW finishes the season with a record of 14-9. They say goodbye to 6 seniors in Jacob Fiala, Christian Bachenberg, Kain Sanders, Alex Swiontek, Jesse Potts, and Brice Enter. This was one of the best finishes for the MCW baseball program since the school’s inception in 1989.
