The Martin County Area gymnastics team is headed to Worthington for the Big South Conference meet this Friday.

Magic head coach Anne Post says her young team exceeded expectations as the top team in the east. 

"As a coach and I think the gymnasts exceeded their own expectations which has been really fun to see. We have hit our goals twice now as a varsity team for team scores. First it was 130 and the second was 135 and we've hit that 135 twice so that's been awesome," says Post. 

MCA is ranked #18 in Class A by the latest coaches' poll and will face #7 Worthington, the top team in the west, for the conference title. Coach Post says newcomer Hannah Cole is an all-around leader and their most improved gymnast is Nola Thedens on the vault and bars. Coach says it’s been fun to see the whole squad support each other this season.  

"We actually get compliments from parents and other coaches about our enthusiasm and energy in the gym and I know that it really helps the girls stay energized through their routines as well," says Post. 

The conference meet starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday inside Worthington High School.
