Mavericks Survive Coyotes in Wild Baseball Game

The Martin County West baseball team held off Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in a wild game on Friday.

The Mavericks beat the Coyotes 16-11 after collecting 17 hits during the game. 

The Coyotes took the first lead 3-0 in the bottom of the first. The Mavericks responded with a pair in the top of the second before the Coyotes added one more in the bottom half. MCW took their first lead with three runs in the third but the Coyotes tied it up in the home half. The Mavs took the lead with four runs in the fifth after a scoreless fourth. MCW added five more in the sixth to lead 14-5 before the Coyotes took one back in the bottom frame. The Mavs led 16-6 after adding a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh. The Coyotes cut the deficit in half with five runs in their final chance at the plate but MCW held on. 

Jerry Olson plated two runs in the third inning with a double and did it again with a single in the fifth. Preston Cepress and Lucas Larson collected three RBIs. Noah Meixell and Talon Ebeling each batted in one run. Olson and Cepress both scored one run. Wilmes, Meixell, and Ebeling, and Cam Meyer each scored three runs. Eli Owens scored a pair of runs as well. Cepress and Wilmes each had three hits. Meyer, Larson, and Faber each had a pair of hits. 

The 2-2 Mavericks will host Loyola on Thursday and will have that game on Xtreme Country 105.7 and Explore Live Video.
