The Martin County West girls basketball team opened the season with a 53-39 win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at home on Monday night. 

Emily Anderson led the Mavericks with a double-double featuring a game-high 15 points and 16 rebounds. Emily Schettler added 10 points to join her in double-digit scoring. Addy Wohlhuter added nine points. Courtney Anderson and Ivy Olson each scored six points. Ida Rohman scored three points. Maddie Carlson and Avery Sanders each scored two points. MCW collected 38 rebounds, 16 assists, and 14 steals as a team while only committing seven turnovers. 

The 1-0 Mavericks visit Cleveland on Tuesday night.
