Laker men roll past Raiders

Sun 12-1-2019

MASON CITY - The Iowa Lakes Community College men's basketball team won its eighth straight game Saturday, beating Central Nebraska 114-75 at the NIACC Thanksgiving Classic. ILCC led 57-30 at halftime.

The Lakers are 8-2, while the Raiders are 8-4.

"We really shot the ball well and when you shoot the ball well the game can be easy," said ILCC coach Troy Larson. "However, you still need to defend and play the right way and in the second half we relaxed and didn’t do that. The learning process for us as we move forward is to defend and rebound when we shoot the ball well."

Justin Brookens (Milwaukee Vincent) led the way for the Lakers scoring 26 points. Keshawn Pegues (Davenport Central) had 16 points and eight rebounds.

Alan Kikwaki (Brussels, Belgium) added 15 points, Dillon Carlson (Ankeny) 14, Malcolm Clayton (Fort Dodge) 11 and Xavier Evans (Milwaukee Lutheran) 10.

The Lakers open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference at home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday vs. Iowa Central.

The ILCC women's basketball team beat Central 63-56 Saturday.
