Fri 1-24-2025

The Jackson County Central basketball teams split a home doubleheader with Fairmont on Friday night.
The JCC girls led early but trailed 37-25 at halftime before rallying to the 68-63 win. It’s the first Huskies victory over the Cardinals since 2018 and the first under head coach Rafe York.
Madelyn Rowe scored 12 points and crashed the boards all night for JCC.
Rylie Cother missed a majority of the first half with foul trouble but still led the Huskies with 20 points. Zadi Farmer scored 18 points including 15 from beyond the arc. Paylin Sether added 16 points and helped contain Cardinals superstar Brylee Miller. Kinley VanDeVere scored two points as well.
The 12-6 Huskies are seeking their tenth straight win when they visit Maple River on Monday night.
The JCC boys lost a 40-38 defensive slugfest to snap a six-game winning streak.
The Huskies led 21-17 at halftime after leading for most of the first half. Fairmont took the lead with just under six minutes left and barely held on to win after a back-and-forth homestretch. Aiven Farmer rebounded a Grant Freking miss in the closing seconds but his putback shot rolled off the rim. Officials came together and waved off potential free throws for Farmer saying that time ran out before the shot left his hand.
Freking led the Huskies with 14 points and Rowe had 11 points. Farmer scored five points. Thomas Sether and Thomas Liepold each had three points. Mason Foster added two points.
The 14-2 Huskies visit Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Monday.
