FORT DODGE - NJCAA eighth-ranked Iowa Central was a 3-0 winner over Iowa Lakes in the semifinals of the Region XI-A volleyball tournament Saturday. Set scores were 25-7, 25-11, 25-16.
Lindsey Jensen (Estherville) had 10 digs, four kills and four blocks for the Lakers. Faith Marroquin (West Anchorage) and Evonne Tomlin (Midlothian, Tex.) had eight digs apiece.
Quiana Coria-Lopez (Denver College View) had two blocks. Mary Kelly (San Antonio Sandra Day O'Connor) had 12 set assists.
"I don't want to dwell too much on this one," said Iowa Lakes coach Mike Turnbull. "It is pretty simple, Iowa Central is a very good volleyball team and we are not quite there yet. I would rather this team be remembered as the team that put Iowa Lakes back on the volleyball map. I am happy for all of our kids, but especially for the sophomores they got to end their Laker careers in the playoffs.
"Considering where we started in mid-August this team came along way. Going forward, we shouldn't settle for anything less than postseason appearances. Now the returning freshmen have to go to work on continuing to build on any success we had this year and incoming recruits have to be ready to immediately make an impact as we continue the climb up the standings."
The Lakers finish with a 10-30 record.
