Huskies Rally to Repeat in Sub-section Championship

The fifth-ranked Jackson County Central boys basketball team rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to win their second straight South sub-section title on Saturday night at SMSU.

The top-seed Huskies trailed #2 South seed Luverne 37-25 at halftime but outscored the Cardinals 48-24 in the second half to win 73-61 by a dozen of their own. 

Grant Freking led JCC with five assists and scored a game-high 27 points with 19 of them coming in the second half. 

Roman Voss added 20 points and tied for the team lead with three steals. 

Weston Rowe scored nine points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and had three blocks. 

Ben Gallagher also scored nine points and co-led JCC with three steals. 

Aiven Farmer added four points. Carson Pohlman and Thomas Liepold each scored two points.

The top seed Montevideo outlasted #2 seed Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 65-59 for the North sub-section title on Saturday. JCC beat Monte 63-55 at SMSU during the Holiday Tournament on December 30th. 

The 24-4 Huskies play the 24-4 Thunderhawks for the Section 3AA Tournament championship and a trip to the State Tournament on Thursday at SMSU in Marshall with the tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
