Wed 2-26-2025

The Jackson County Central girls basketball team took care of Redwood Valley during the Section 3AA Tournament in St James on Tuesday night.
The top South seed Huskies beat the fourth-seeded Cardinals 72-56 to extend their school-record winning streak to 17 games. JCC built a 38-18 halftime lead and led by as many as 25 without letting RV truly climb back into the game. The Huskies improved to 20-6 overall.
JCC head coach Rafe York says their performance wasn’t perfect but getting the win matters most in the postseason.
JCC made 13 three-pointers as a team.
Zadi Farmer led all scorers with 22 points including five made three-pointers. Rylie Cother added 17 points.
Kinley VanDeVere joined them in double figures with 11 points.
Madelyn Rowe scored six points and provided the main JCC presence in the key.
Brylee Anderson scored eight points and Paylin Sether also added six points. Payton Coquyt scored two points.
The #2 seed Fairmont pulled away from #6 Pipestone Area 70-49 in the Tuesday nightcap. That sets up a showdown between the top South seeds on Thursday night at SMSU in Marshall. JCC and Fairmont split during the regular season but the Huskies win was their first over the Cardinals since 2018.
We will have that subsection title game on KKOJ with coverage starting at around 7:45 and tip-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
The top seed New London-Spicer will play #2 Minnewaska Area for the North subsection title beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The Section 3AA championship game featuring the winners from this Thursday will happen next Thursday, March 6 at SMSU.
