Huskies are STATE CHAMPIONS

Fri 3-3-2023

The Jackson County Central Huskies wrestling team accomplished their goal of becoming the Class A State champions for a second year in a row. JCC started out the day by handing West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon Evansville a 48 to 17 loss in the quarterfinal round. In the semi finals the Huskies dominated Howard Lake Waverly Winsted 54 to 18 to move on to the Championship dual of Class A. #2 ranked Caledonia Houston would be the opponent the Huskies would face. Kayden Eller started things out with a fall in 59 seconds. Kyler Thier, just a 7th grader for the Huskies, did his job at 113 by not getting pinned or giving up a technical fall allowing Caledonia/Houston to only score 4 points. Isaac Rodriguez won by major decision, Ben Dahlin had to medically forfeit to Braxton Lange after suffering a concussion during the match. Dahlin will not be wrestling in todays individual tournament. Nolan Ambrose won 5 to 1 over Owen Denstad, which is a match up we could see today in individuals. Thomas Freking won a 6 to 3 decision over Cory Scanlan, Logan Butzon and Isiah Rodriguez both won by decision. Trey Rossow lost 3 to 2 in a tough contested match. Seth Stai got the fall at 170. Dylan Withers had to medically forfeit after possibly dislocating his collar bone. He did weight in today but we are not sure if he will be able to wrestle. Matt Haley came out after Withers and wrestled a great match. He won by decision and Caleb Vancura would get the fall in his 220 lb match to seal the victory. Cam Scholten would also get a fall at heavyweight to put an exclamation point on the 43 to 19 win. The Huskies now turn their attention to the individual portion of the tournament today and we will cover all 11 wrestlers in every match that they have.
