Hedquist gets playing time in two U.S. wins

FUSSEN, Germany - Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake saw some time in goal for the U.S. Under-17 select men's hockey team in two exhibition wins over the weekend.
The U.S. won 7-1 over the Red Bull Academy Under-18 team Saturday in Salzburg, Austria and Germany 5-0 Sunday in Fussen.
Tuesday, the U.S. opens play in the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Fussen, facing Slovakia at 8 a.m. Central time.
The Americans also play Switzerland at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Czech Republic at 8 a.m. Friday and Germany at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Hedquist played nine games in goal for the Sioux Falls Power U16 team last season. He had a .908 save percentage and a 1.76 goals-against average. In three playoff games, he had a 2.01 GAA.
He was the first goalie chosen in the Phase I United States Hockey League draft, selected by the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Hedquist has committed to Colorado College for the 2022-23 season.
