Coaching Legend Retires

Thu 7-21-2022

If you lived in Fairmont the past 51 years you knew there was one thing that would happen every March, Bob Bonk would kick off his varsity track and field practice. After what is arguably the most successful track & field coaching career in the state, if not the country, Coach Bonk has decided to retire.  He is a member of four halls of Fame including the Minnesota High School Coaches Association, the Minnesota High School Track & Field Coaches Association, the Fairmont Athletic Hall of Fame and the Minnesota High School Cross Country Coaches Association — Bonk said there wasn’t just one deciding factor in retiring but said he knew it was time. Bonk says he and his wife Deb will make more decisions after Labor Day as to what their future plans hold but he says he won’t be a stranger to Fairmont sports any time soon.
