Brookens shares Region XI award

AMES - Justin Brookens of Iowa Lakes Community College has been named co-Player of the Year in Division II Region XI men's basketball. He shares the award with Kirkwood's Luke Appel.
A transfer from Bryant & Stratton (Wis.), Brookens led the Lakers to another competitive season.
He led the conference in scoring with 20.1 points per game in 14 contests.
Brookens was 48-98 on three-point field-goal attempts for 49 percent and 46.5 percent overall from the field. He shot 90 percent from the free-throw line.
A sophomore from Milwaukee Vincent, Brookens also led the league in assists with 68.
He scored in double figures in 30 of 32 games this season and was named ICCAC Player of the Week three times.
Freshman forward Keshawn Pegues (Davenport Central) was also a first-team all-region choice.
Sophomore guard Malcolm Clayton (Fort Dodge) was named to the second team and sophomore guard Boston Grimes (Johnston) was an honorable mention selection.
ILCC was ranked 10th in the country in the final NJCCA poll and finished the season with a 26-6 record.
