LAKEVILLE - Jackson County Central will play Waseca in the quarterfinals of the state Class 3A football playoffs Saturday at Lakeville South High School. Coverage on KKOJ starts at 11:30 a.m., with kickoff at noon.

The second-ranked Huskies are 10-0 after beating fifth-ranked Fairmont 36-12 for the Section 3AAA title last week.

The 10th-ranked Bluejays are 8-2 and won the Section 1AAA title by winning 42-20 over fourth-ranked Stewartville. Waseca lost to Fairmont 20-14 in Week Three and 27-8 to Marshall in Week Seven.

JCC is 2-0 all-time vs. Waseca. The teams played both years of the Southern Minnesota Alliance. The SMAC combined the Southwest and South Central conferences.

In 2005, the Huskies won 49-13 in Jackson and then won 20-3 at Waseca in 2006.

JCC is in the state football playoffs for the eighth time. The Huskies won the state Class 3A title in 2001 and were second in 1997, 1998 and 2015. Jackson County Central's other state appearances were in 2012 and 2013 in Class 2A and 2016 in 3A.

Jackson High School made two trips to state. The Bluejays were the 1985 Class B state champions and also qualified in 1989.

Waseca is in the state playoffs for the third time. The Bluejays qualified in Class 3A in 2009 and last year in Class 4A, beating Winona 49-7 in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion SMB 23-15 in the semifinals.
