CFE to add Spirit Lake lumberyard
(Spirit Lake)-- Cooperative Farmers Elevator (CFE) announced today (Tues.) they will be opening a new lumberyard in Spirit Lake. CFE officials say it will be located in the former Ferguson Manufacturing building on Memphis Avenue. It will be CFE's 5th lumberyard, in addition to those the company currently operates in George, Hartley, Lake Park and Ocheyedan.
CFE's board of directors recently voted to purchase the building that will house the Spirit Lake lumber operation. Board members cited the growing agricultural, commercial and residential construction market in Dickinson county in their vote to proceed. They also say it will enhance CFE's Kitchen and Home Design Center which is located in Okoboji.
Dave Helms, CFE Vice President of Lumber, says the 27,500 square foot building in Spirit Lake will have plenty of space to allow them to house most of the materials indoors. He says a board storage racking system will be installed in the building, which already has a loading dock.
Helms says they're in the process of hiring a yard supervisor, yard laborers, drivers, and sales personnel for the Spirit Lake location, which will open in April.
