Update on college athletes

JACKSON - Here's an update on what some area graduates have done recently on the collegiate scene.

Jackson County Central graduate Kenna Bannister, a junior at Augsburg University, competed in two meets in California, setting a personal record in the shot put and discus and narrowly missing a PR in the hammer throw.
At Whittier, she was first in the shot put with an effort of 37-8, which was three feet more than her previous best. Also at Whittier, she was third in the discus (91-2), which was 20 inches better than her previous best; and she was third in the hammer (122-6.)
At Pomona-Pitzer, Kenna finished 20th in a large field in the shot put (35-11.25) and 38th in the discus (95-8).
The Auggies had been scheduled to compete at the Minnesota Spring Invitational Saturday but that meet has been cancelled. Augsburg is then scheduled at the St. Olaf Manitou Classic Thursday.
JCC graduate Jessica Christoffer, a freshman at South Dakota State, ran her first career outdoor 800 meters at the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion, posting a time of 2:29.58. She also ran the first leg of a 4x400-meter relay team for the Jackrabbits.
SDSU is scheduled to compete in the Sioux City Relays Saturday.
JCC grad Brandon Schmit, a junior at Dakota State, had an effort of 43-6.5 in the shot put and 119-3 in the discus at the Dordt Invitational in Sioux Center. The Trojans will be at the Sioux City Relays Saturday.
JCC grad Joe Brinkman, a senior at Mount Marty College, shot a one-under 70 Tuesday to place eighth out of 80 golfers at the Red Raider Cup in Orange City.
The Lancers are scheduled to plain the GPAC Spring Preview Monday at Dakota Dunes and host the Mount Marty Invitational Tuesday.
JCC graduate Darrius Johnson, a sophomore at Minnesota West, is hitting .364 for the Bluejays (20-55) with four doubles and 12 runs batted in.
Minnesota West (11-17) is scheduled to host Western Technical Saturday.
JCC graduate Ryan Christopher, a sophomore at Concordia University in St. Paul, is hitting .343 (35-102) with seven doubles, four triples and 25 RBI for the Golden Bears.
On the mound, he has a 2-2 record and 3.91 earned-run average. In 23 innings, he's allowed 13 runs (10 earned) on 18 hits, walked 15 and struck out 28.
Concordia (17-15) is scheduled to play Augustana in doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday in Boone, Iowa.
Jackson County Central graduate Easton Bahr, a sophomore at Buena Vista University, is hitting .286 (4-14) for the Buena Vista University baseball team. One of his hits was a double and he has three RBI.
JCC grad Chris Gumto, also a sophomore at BVU, has made three pitching appearances, allowing seven hits in four innings. The Beavers (12-12) are at Coe for two Friday and one Saturday.
JCC grad Blaney Markman, a junior at Waldorf University, is hitting .431 (28-65) with six doubles and 11 RBI for the Warriors.
Waldorf (11-17) goes to North Dakota for doubleheaders vs. Mayville State University Sunday and Monday.
Martin County West graduate Brandon Williamson pitched a career-high six innings for TCU Sunday. He allowed two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out five in the Horned Frogs' 6-4 win over Oklahoma.
TCU (20-11) hosts Seton Hall this weekend with a doubleheader Friday and single game Sunday. Williamson is scheduled to start Sunday.
