Huskies open 3A tourney with win over Cobras
JACKSON – Top-seeded Jackson County Central was a 45-29 winner over eighth-seeded Windom/Mountain Lake in the quarterfinals of the Section 3A wrestling tournament Thursday. The Cobras had defeated ninth-seeded Springfield 54-30 earlier Thursday.
Five JCC wrestlers won by falls, Payton Handevidt (145), Ethan Hendrickson (160), Will Freking (182), Trace Michelson (195) and Sam Dunker (220).
Winning major decisions were Kie Anderson (113), Logan Butzon (120) and Thomas Freking (126).
Caleb Vancura (170) won a decision.
Jackson County Central improved to 15-1 on the season.
The Huskies will wrestle Canby (16-5) in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Lamberton. The Lancers beat Adrian Area 48-17 Thursday.
JCC defeated Canby 43-23 on Jan. 23.
The other semifinal at 12:30 has second-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove (27-7) taking on third-seeded Minneota (17-11). The winners will meet for the title at about 2 p.m.
