Winter Games to scale back indoor activities
(Arnolds Park)-- COVID-19 is going to result in some big changes for this year's University of Okoboji Winter Games. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says things are going to be scaled back when it comes to indoor activities...
"So the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber and our board of directors have been meeting regularly to monitor the situation going on in our community and our nation. As we know people come not only from our community but very beyond for the Winter Games. So we made the difficult decision to cancel the indoor events that the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber puts on which includes the Chili Cookoff, the Chocolate Classic and Galleria and the Cribbage Tournament. All of our outdoor events are still on and we're looking forward to socially distancing and being safe at those events this year. But we're really excited to kind of escape some cabin fever and enjoy the beautiful resources that we have here. There's so much space for us to spread out and enjoy and view the different activities that are going on."
Meanwhile Zankowski says they've started taking registrations for the outdoor events. And, she says, they're also accepting nominations for cheerleaders...
"So nominations and voting are going to be a little different this year. Everything is online through uofowintergames.com. And if you head over to the cheerleader tab you can find the nomination form and soon the voting form to nominate and vote in eight cheerleaders for the 2021 year."
Zankowski says the nominations need to be in by this coming Sunday evening.
