Local Business Challenge Attracts New Businesses To The Area
Tue 12-7-2021
(Jackson)- The Jackson Business Development Committee (JBDC) is accepting applications for the 2022 Jackson Business Challenge through the end of this month, December 31st, 2021. The four-year-old program is a three-phase competition that will attract new businesses to downtown Jackson by offering a prize package worth $20,000.
The 2022 Jackson Business Challenge will follow the same guidelines as the 2019, 2020 and 2021 programs with one minor change. If a suitable location cannot be found in the downtown Jackson Business District, locations within Jackson city limits will be considered, although preference will be given to businesses that will locate in the downtown area.
Dave Schmidt, of the JBDC, talked about the challenge and some of the businesses that have been brought to the area thanks to the challenge...
“This is the fourth year and we've brought two businesses into downtown Jackson and we're looking to make it three! Second year the winner was the Rest Stop, and they're open there across from the theater, and last years winner was Level 10 Fit, and they're open there having classes on main street and so we're working through our fourth year the initial applications are due by the end of the month.”
December 31, 2021 is the deadline for the first of three rounds. Applicants must submit the completed application along with a Business Concept. Those who move on from round one will receive help in submitting a detailed business plan and the final round consists of an oral presentation in front of a panel of judges. The winner of the challenge is expected to be announced on March 7th of next year.
The prize package for the winner includes grant funds, rental assistance, free marketing, accounting assistance, legal assistance and more. Local organizations are sponsoring the challenge and businesses in and out of Jackson are encouraged to apply.
