Lakefield Fire Department responds to grass fire in same area two days in a row.
Wed 5-5-2021
The Lakefield Fire Department. was paged on Monday and Tuesday to fight a grass fire at the Boot Lake Wildlife Management Area. Lakefield Fire Chief Tim Baumann says it was a battle.
"It was a challenge out there. We called Jackson right away for their grass rig unit because you can't take any heavy equipment out there. Battled it for about an hour and a half and finally got it put out."
Baumann says they don’t know how the fire started but with the dry conditions people need to be extra cautious.
"Just be extra careful if ya really need to burn something, watch the weather, make sure the wind isn't forecasted to pick up or change wind directions. Probably the best to wait if its not an absolute must to burn until after we get some moisture."
Parts of CR 14 were temporarily closed by deputies due to no visibility caused by heavy smoke. Crews were on scene for about 2.5 hours on Monday and 2 hours on Tuesday. The Jackson Fire department was paged for assistance both days.
