HyLife In Windom Finds A Buyer, But Buyer Does Not Intend To Retain Employees
Mon 6-5-2023
(Windom)- News comes from Windom as HyLife has found a highest bidder in their process of selling the plant, which employed over a thousand workers from the region, though the buyers, Premium Iowa Pork, says they do not intend to retain the employees of the Windom plant.
Around half of that 1,000 number are on work visas directly tied to their jobs at HyLife, and now have 10 days to return to their home country.
The job loss is significant, but the buying of the plant is also significant, with a $14 million price tag on the plant, which saw the winning bid confirmed last Wednesday.
HyLife also released a statement, saying that “This has been a trying journey for all involved.” They also thanked employees and the City of Windom for their help in relieving the pressure of the plant closing. Also unsure at this time is the $14 million from state and federal dollars set aside if HyLife did not find a buyer.
