City Of Jackson Ends Sports Complex Plans For Now
Wed 6-7-2023
(Jackson)- The Jackson City Council last night effectively ended their sports complex plans with a failed 4-2 vote that saw the proposed special sales tax in town falling short.
The issue among members wasn't the 1% tax itself, but the vagueness of the plans...
“Looks like that potentially kills our project. It does in some levels today, without the bonding piece I guess I did not realize or remember that, without that I don't see how we can afford it with what else we've got going on.”
The original idea was for around half of the proposed $10 million project to be paid for by a special 1% sales tax in Jackson, which even if approved would have had to be put in front of voters during the 2024 General Election, then the other half of the amount to be paid for by bonding bills in the Minnesota Legislature and possibly grants, but the bonding section of that proposal entirely fell through in talks with the state legislature, due to low likelihood of funding a recreational complex over things like roads and housing.
