Areas In Region Looking For Emergency Funding After Flooding

Thu 5-18-2023

(Undated)- Areas in Minnesota and neighboring Iowa were hit hard by recent rains, and emergency status has been called in some of those hardest hit in Iowa, as well as in Minnesota. Some areas in Cottonwood county, especially in the north, received over eight inches of rain in one week alone, with other places reaching up to nearly a foot of rain.

This emergency declaration will help to get emergency reconstruction funding from the state and federal government, and will hopefully do the same in Iowa, where Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for northwest Iowa areas hit by severe weather.

The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides up to $5,000 for households up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Grants are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food and temporary housing.

Federal funding is likely being chased as well to help with the massive damage these rainfalls have caused both of our states.
