AmazonSmile Program Shuts Down, Impacting Local Nonprofits
Thu 1-26-2023
(Undated)- Nonprofits across the country are feeling let down by Amazon's decision to shutter the AmazonSmile donation program, which thousands of nonprofits across the country depended upon to fund local programs. The donations came in no small number, with nearly $450 million having been donated by 2022.
Local entities like the Nobles County Historical Society had benefited from the program over the years, and posted to Facebook that they were unhappy the program was ending. Other sales giants like Target and Walmart have similar programs, but one large donation entity shuttering could leave a large hole in the pot for local nonprofits like the NCHS.
