Huskies Overcome Raiders and More in State Quarterfinal
Sat 11-9-2024
The Jackson County Central football team is in the Class AA State Football semifinal round for the third year in a row.
RECAP:
JCC beat the Central Raiders of Norwood Young America 34-7 on Friday night inside Pasonen Stadium at Orono High School.
The Huskies scored the first two times they touched the football. Roman Voss ran 73 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage for the top-ranked offense.
Ben Dahlin returned a punt 65 yards for another score after the top-ranked defense forced the first of several Raiders three-and-outs.
Voss ran in the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 JCC. He had to leave the game with an injury during the next Huskies drive and did not return. Both offenses struggled to move the ball consistently for the rest of the first half. Ben Gallagher helped preserve the 14-0 lead with an interception late in the second quarter.
JCC made another defensive stop to open the second half and then new quarterback Grant Freking found Gallagher in the end zone from 14 yards out to complete an 11-play, 86-yard drive.
Clay Malchow scored the two-pointer to make it 22-0 JCC. Gallagher would later leave the game with an injury as well.
Aiven Farmer forced a fumble that Isaac Hesebeck recovered on the next Raiders snap. Freking escaped trouble to find Carson Pohlman for a 23-yard TD pass on the ensuing Huskies drive.
JCC led 28-0 after the third quarter. Ian Titterington made an interception on the next Raiders drive.
Tavion Diggs scored from 13 yards out to make it 34-0 JCC. The Raiders scored their only TD in the fourth. Cael Entriken made another pick during the closing moments of the game.
Huskies head coach Tom Schuller says the game got more challenging as it went along but JCC rose to the occasion.
