Huskies Hold Off Flying Dutchmen in Season Opener

The Jackson County Central softball team outlasted Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian 7-5 in a state-ranked showdown on Friday.
The game was scheduled to be played in Edgerton but moved to Jackson because of rain in the forecast.
The Huskies built a 7-0 lead by scoring one run in the first inning, five in the third, and one more in the fourth.
Kinley VanDeVere started the scoring with a double to score Mady Wachal. VanDeVere finished 3-for-3 and hit another double later in the game.
The Huskies loaded the bases to start the third inning. Mady Wachal and CJ Pauling scored on a two-run single by Bailey Finck. Kinley VanDeVere scored on a wild pitch. Clara Brinks scored on a Brielle Tufvesson bunt as a courtesy runner for Finck. Julia Bidne scored on an error by the catcher to complete the crooked number in the third.
Finck plated her third run of the game by scoring Kinley VanDeVere with a single in the fourth.
The Flying Dutchmen collected two runs in the fifth on a home run and an RBI single. They added three runs in the sixth with one scored on an error and the others on a two-run double before JCC held on to win.
Hadley Wachal got the win in the circle after three shutout innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Mady Wachal pitched four innings and allowed all five runs with two of them earned on six hits but also dealt five strikeouts.
