Huskies Dominate, Endure Heartache in State Bracket

Thu 6-5-2025

The Jackson County Central softball team dominated in the State Tournament quarterfinals but lost in extra innings during the Class AA semifinals at Caswell Park in North Mankato on Wednesday.

The Huskies started with a 10-0 win over St. Agnes in five innings.

JCC began with seven runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. The Huskies added one more in the second and two more in the top of the fifth.

Huskies head coach Morgan Christopher says they made a statement with the run-rule victory: 6-4-25 JCC SB after QF win

Hadley Wachal tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and a pair of walks. Brielle Tufvesson and Mady Wachal each batted in two runs and scored twice. Braelyn Boogerd also scored a pair of runs.

JCC took the early lead again in the semifinal but lost to Hawley 2-1 in 11 innings.

Mady Wachal smacked an RBI double to score Cora Pauling for the 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Golden Nuggets tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and then eventually walked it off to advance to the title game against St. Cloud Cathedral.

Coach Christopher says the Huskies stayed true to who they are even in defeat: 6-4-25 JCC SB after Semi loss

Hadley Wachal started the game for JCC and collected six strikeouts with three walks without allowing a hit in 3 ⅔ innings. She did get charged with the earned run when Hawley tied the game. Mady Wachal took over for the remaining 6 ⅔ innings with one run allowed on five hits plus 10 strikeouts and six walks.

Tufvesson and Cora Pauling each registered a pair of hits in the semifinal.

JCC will play top-seeded Randolph in the Third Place game on Thursday and the first pitch is at 1:00 p.m. on KKOJ.
