Huskies Bring Out Broom for Belle Plaine

The Jackson County Central basketball teams swept Belle Plaine on Friday night. 

The seventh-ranked JCC boys opened up a 40-29 halftime lead over the ninth-ranked Tigers and ended up with a big 84-69 win at home. 

Huskies head coach Alex Hein honored Ryan Christopher with the Alumni Impact Award before the game. Christopher played in two state tournaments and is the all-time Huskies leader in assists, steals, and wins. 

Weston Rowe led JCC with 18 points and nine rebounds. Grant Freking added 17 points, a team-high nine assists, and eight boards. Thomas Sether collected 16 points including four three-pointers plus seven assists and a pair of steals. 

Ben Gallagher made his season debut in the starting lineup after recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the state football quarterfinals. He got the scoring started with a three-point basket and finished the night with 12 points including a trio of made threes.  

Aiven Farmer had six points and six rebounds. Thomas Liepold had six points and five rebounds. Carter Buhl had five points and Carson Pohlman added four points. 

The Huskies improved to 17-2 overall after avenging their December loss to Belle Plaine. 

The JCC girls outlasted the Tigers 86-82 on the road for a 12th straight win.  

Rylie Cother dropped 53 points with 22 made field goals on the night. Zadi Farmer collected 16 points with a dozen from beyond the arc. Paylin Sether, Madelyn Rowe, and Payton Coquyt each scored four points. 

The Huskies improved to 15-6 overall with a season sweep of the Tigers.
