Federated REA urges caution when moving snow
(Jackson, MN) — With the snow piling up and more on the way this weekend, Federated Rural Electric in Jackson reminds members to move snow carefully.
Keep in mind what could be lurking underneath. Is your green padmount transformer or meter pedestal in that area? Is there a guy wire that’s covered by a snow pile? Federated has already experienced outages caused by customers moving snow that pushed the transformer off exposing wires; this creates safety issues could have caused an electrical shock injury and caused unnecessary outages.
When moving snow, also look up! The snow piles under powerlines mean that electrical contact is now closer. Do not let kids play on snow piles under powerlines. Watch how high the tractor’s bucket goes to make sure you do not make contact with the power lines or hit a pole.
“The last thing you want to happen is a power outage during blizzard conditions,” stated Joe Marathaler, Federated’s operations manager. “Federated thanks members for being careful as they move this snow.”
Federated Rural Electric is a Touchstone Energy cooperative serving more than 6,700 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.
